A noncitizen who is in the United States without valid immigration status may obtain U Nonimmigrant Status and a green card after three years if they are the victim of certain qualifying crimes. This visa exists to encourage immigrants to report crimes without fear of deportation. You may also be able to obtain this visa if your child was the victim of a crime while they were a minor and in your custody.
There are some immigration benefits that can be granted on humanitarian grounds upon request. If you need to travel outside the US, if your spouse petitioned for you then passed away before the visa was approved, if you have an extremely ill family member, or other similar situations then you can try making a request to immigration.

The parents of members of the U.S. armed forces are eligible for a unique benefit that could allow them to obtain legal permanent residency even if they entered the United States unlawfully. Typically someone who entered the U.S. unlawfully cannot get residency through their adult child without having to obtain a waiver (pardon) and leave the country.
